78 rpm Records
Boxing and shipping fragile 78 rpm records is as old as the record industry. Back in the day, millions of shellac records were packaged and shipped safely by both record companies and record dealers. If a record store was out of a particular record, it could take your order and have the disc mailed. Records that were specifically marketed for Blacks, Hispanics, and other racial minorities were sent by mail to buyers in communities that did not have retailers that stocked the records. Likewise, 78 record collectors have been boxing and shipping records for as long as there have been such collectors.
Carefully packaged 78s will arrived safe and sound at their destination, provided a few simple rules are followed. The below illustration by 78 collector Robert Crumb shows how simple it is to safely package 78 records:
